Quake 4 Key
Since Quake 4 v1.42 Point Release, the CD-Key was encrypted. This posed a problem to play back demos based on a version prior to v1.42 as they cannot read the encrypted key and would request the CD-Key to be entered prohibiting demo play. The only option was to let Seismovision know the Quake 4 CD-Key. The key can be entered in the Quake 4 Options under CD-Key. ID software was contacted regarding this issue for a better solution, waiting on a response.
Some mods when upgraded break demo compatibility with the previous version. A solution is presented below.
With Seismovision v3.01 is easier to manage multiple mod installations by letting Seismovision decide what version to use by scanning the files required by the demos. Simply have all old versions in your Quake 4 folder under a different name (eg 'q4max071'). You no longer have to decide or guess what mod version to use. If you are missing additional files to play the demo, Seismovision will inform you on what you need.
I cannot play Quake 4 v1.41 or higher demos. What must I do?
You need to set the mod to Q4MP to play demos of v1.41 or higher. Seismovision should set this automatically for you.
Quake 4 v1.00 to v1.05 have the same demo protocol. Compatibility is broken by using modifications of different version. A good example is that Q4Max v.05 demos cannot be played back on Q4Max v0.71.
