The Update System was designed to let you easily keep up to date with the latest in demo viewing software. This feature is only available to registered users.
You can access the Update System in two ways. Over the start menu under Programs->NuGardt Software->Seismovision 3->Update System or through Seismovision options menu under Seismovision 3->Update, click 'Check for Updates' to launch the Update System.
When the Update System starts, click next to download the update index. The index contains all the information about the updates available. Seismovision keeps a log on what updates are installed. The Update System checks that and displays only the updates you don't have installed. On the next screen you can select which updates you like. Critical updates are checked by default. When finished selecting your updates click next to let the Update System download them for you. After the download is complete, the Update System checks the download integrity by running a MD5 hash (What is MD5? Use google.com). If all goes well, the Update System starts the installation of the updates. Most updates are silent but some may require you to select some options. After all updates are installed you will receive a message confirming this and displaying a path on you hard drive where the downloaded were saved to.
Where are my downloaded updates saved?
They are saved in the '.\Update\Download' folder of your Seismovision 3 directory (by default at C:\Program Files\NuGardt Software\Seismovision 3\Update\Download).
Are the downloads I download via the Update System the same I can download on the web-site?
Yes. The Update System just makes it easier for you to obtain them. When updates are released, they will always available first on the update system before they are published on the web site.
Who is hosting the Update System?
The first test host for the Update System was sponsored by www.challenge-tv.com. Shortly afterwards I got hosted by www.planetquake3.net. After a year some people complained that the Update System was not working so RogeR of planetquake3.net was kind enough to sponsor a IP. From the 9 June 2003 the Update System downloads where counted. Check it out at http://update.seismovision.net. The online update system is based on PHP. No data except download requests are sent to the server. No personal or other kind of information is recorded by the update system/server.
Can I use a proxy with the Update System?
Yes. The update system supports HTTP proxies. Tested with
CC Proxy. On the
startup screen, click on 'Proxy' and enter the address and port of the proxy.
Click the test button to confirm correct settings. After a few seconds a message
box should come confirming your success. When no message box appears, check your
settings again.
I got a firewall on my system, will the update system work?
Seismovision has been tested with ZoneAlarm 6 and Kerio Personal Firewall 4 and it worked perfectly. The update system uses the standard HTTP port (80) to access the update server.
Is there a step-by-step guide to the Update System?
Yes. Click here to view.
