This part of the documentation contains information about the author of Seismovision. Only read this if you are interested about where I come from and how I made Seismovision. =] This section has nothing to do on operating Seismovision. Please note that I'm talking to myself here. =P
Who are you and where did you come from?

My name is Kevin Oliver Gardthausen. I was born in Bremen, Germany. In 1994 I moved to Windhoek, Namibia and a year later to Swakopmund, Namibia where I still am today.

Why did you do Seismovision?
After sometime I came to Swakopmund, I started LAN'ing and somebody gave me a demo player because they wanted me to become better by watching demos. But there was a problem with the demo player. It did not have support for the minimum installed version of Quake 3 Arena so I could not play any demos with it. I could not install the game fully because I only had a 545Mb hard disk. I was sad. =( After a few months I got a new PC with a bigger hard disk. Although I had enough disk space now, I was determined to make a demo player that could do that for other people who have small hard disks. After two days of programming I gave up. I was just to n00b. After a month I tried again and got it right. I released Seismovision v1.0.0 on the 25 October 2001.
Why did you choose the nick 'OomJan'?
My nick was not always OomJan. Long time ago I was know as Kevin007. As it was to n00bie, I changed my name to OomJan. I first used the nick while camping in militia in Counter-Strike =P. 'Oom' is Afrikaans and means 'Uncle'. As I'm a uncle already it fits perfectly. 'Jan' was a default name in South-Africa so I just chose it.
What program did you use to make those 1337 graphics and stuff?
I mostly used Ulead PhotoImpact 8 and MS Paint =P. Sometimes I also used Adobe Photoshop and CorelDraw 12. The pictures above where taken with a Sony DSC-P73 4.1Megapixel digital camera. The web-site I designed with Front Page XP and Notepad in aid with Apache, PHP, IIS, mySQL and MS-SQL.
What is your favourite game and to what servers do you connect to?
Its very obvious, its Quake 3 Arena. Before I played Quake 3 Arena I loved to play Unreal. I can only play Quake 3 Arena on the South-African servers as they are the closet to me with 1313km (Cape town). My ping is between 90-110ms over my ISDN 64kbit. Here is the server address if you want to try to connect ;) kalahari.mweb.co.za:27690. The second nearest server I can connect to are the German servers with 430ms ping. I cannot even walk around on the server and people want to duel me in pro-q3tourney4 =S Damn 24ms p1mps. =]
How cheap/expensive is your Internet connection?
I pay N$ 115,00 a month to my ISP and I pay N$ 9.00 per hour off peak and N$ 18.00 on peak. What the hell is N$??? Its called the Namibian Dollar (NAD). Its always 1:1 to the South-African Rand. About N$ 7,44 = US$ 1,00 (April 2007).
Why do you not use DSL instead of the 'slow' ISDN?
Simple, it is not available in Namibia and our telecommunication company has got the monopoly here and they are only interested in making money. ISDN 128kbps is available, it is just not payable as all prices double! Leased lines cost as much as a new computer per month. N$ 4500 for installation, N$ 3900 per month and you got yourself a 32kbps pit. 64kbps leased line is double the price and so on. For satellite (400kbps Down/64kbps Up) connection, you can buy at least 3 computers per month. I know of only one place in Swakopmund that has this, an Internet Cafe named CompuCare. There I get a top download speed of 44 kilobytes per second.
Do you play the games that are supported by Seismovision?
I only play Quake 3 Arena and I used to play Star Trek Voyager Elite Force and Star Trek Elite Force 2. All other games I just peeked into multiplayer to check commands and demo controls. I do not at all play the other games like Call of Duty or Unreal Tournament.
Who is your favourite player/clan?
My favourite players are Ph4ntom (ZA), cooller (RU), uNkind (RU), proZac (SE), b100.death (RU), leXer (RU). QPO (Quad People Org) is my favourite team-game clan, also like IC (Ice Climbers) and EYE (Eye Ballers). (All Quake 3 Arena clans and players obviously)
What else do you like to do except programming?
Wandering around town listening to music for my portable MP3 player (iPod 20Gb). When not walking, then I'm driving with a friend, laptop on my lap, wireless card on, GPS connected. Mapping and scanning wireless networks around town. So far 14 found and which 4 are secured. I told the owners of the unsecured network that their network are open but they did not care and still happily broadcast free internet access. One one business allowed me to secure them, so I did, no SSID broadcast and WEP 64bit. Plain and simple.
What other programs did you make?
I made a small program for my Sony Digital Still Camera (DSC-P71) to extract the images from the memory stick. I just hated the program that came with it, so I made my own with file names the way I like it (e.g. '9-17-2003 5-08-12 PM.jpg' instead of 'DSC0003.jpg'). This program is simple really, just accessing the virtual memory stick drive. Never finished it though.
Some time ago I got the DummyPulg source codes. DummyPlug is a Quake 3 Arena scorebot, I developed it further for the South-African online gaming league but after the league failed, I stopped programming on it.
For the Swakopmund business community I did an image catalogue viewer called Logovision. This way I made some money this way. I developed the program to support multiple catalogues. Quite a cool program.
Also did a bit of web-programming in PHP. I did a image viewer with page and captions and stuff. Sites I did: http://www.nugardt.com, http://www.das.com.na, http://www.grimboy.com, http://www.karakulia.com.na, http://www.swakopmundspca.com and http://www.hans-kriess.com.
Are you doing software development professionally?
Yes. I am Microsoft certied as Professional (MCP), Application Developer (MCAD) and Solution Developer with Mircosoft .NET (MCSD). Please note that I am NOT associated with Microsoft, its just a certification to say how leet I am. I do not know anyone else in Namibia doing this, but there must be some.
