Translation

Welcome to the Seismovision 3 translation guide. This guide will take you step by step into the required translation procedures.

Before you start any kind of translation of Seismovision, please inquire with Kevin at kevin@seismovision.net first. I do not want to have three translations for the same language that's why this step is necessary.

Skill Perquisites: File coping basics and Notepad skills

Current languages supported: (Last updated: 20 August 2007)

English, Polish, Finnish, Simplified-Chinese and Spanish.

By translating Seismovision and following this guide, your translation may be chosen to be added to Seismovision, you will be awarded credits and a free Seismovision 3 registration key.

Hoping you followed all the steps above, you should have received the latest language file in English set up for you per e-mail. We have to copy this file now into Seismovision. Inside the Seismovision root directory you will find a folder named 'Languages'. This is where all languages are stored. Transfer the language file from the e-mail into the 'Languages' directory typically located at 'C:\Program Files\NuGardt Software\Seismovision 3\Languages'. Open this language file you just transferred into a text editor such as Notepad. You would see something similar as shown below. Markings in red are comments.

NEW: Seismovision 3 now has a small language manager to help with the translation. You are required to have Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 installed on your PC. Mail me to get a copy.

Keep your translation short and descriptive. Do not tell stories! When testing your translation, make sure your text fits into the designated labels or buttons. If space is insufficient by all means and you cannot make your description shorter, contact me and I will try to make more space for your translation. When loading your language into Seismovision, Seismovision will complain about the file not being signed. Ignore this for now. When your translation is 100% complete, I will sign it.

Some parts above are marked 'DO NOT EDIT', I will fill in the information as required. I will also set the flag up for your translation as it will not be shown in Seismovision during translation.

Also note that during the course of time, Seismovision is developed further and new translation strings may require translation. You will receive an e-mail from Kevin with the new lines. If there is no response from you within a couple of days, the new strings will be inserted as English in your translation. If you got any more questions, read the FAQ below or e-mail me. I will respond, if I do not respond, slap me and send it again. E-mails may get lost in my spam mail filters.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q: What is the '&' in the language strings?
A: This ampersand is used to create keyboard shortcuts, by underlining the proceeding character. Example "Cl&ose" will result in "Close". "o" being the shortcut for the string. This will only show inside Seismovision.

Q: What is this: "#DEMOCOUNT#"? Must I translate this?
A: This is a place holder and will be inserted by Seismovision, you may not translate this.

Q: I have translated the Seismovision language files, can I translate the documentation as well?
A: Of course you can, if you got nothing better to do. =] Mail me to get the latest copy. Please note that the documentation changes a lot.
